Why is Bucktown called Bucktown?

Now a very upscale neighborhood with tons of restaurants, bars, shops, the 606 trail, and million dollar single family homes. It once wasn’t so high end. Over 100 years ago, it was basically a bunch of farms.

The neighborhood mostly consisted of European settlers raising goats, cows, and even chickens right in their yards. The goat was so popular in that area, people started calling it “kozie prery”, that’s polish for “goat prairie”.

Eventually, as the neighborhood grew and other settlers moved it, it was changed to the English name we know today, Bucktown.
