🤓Where does the name Goose Island come from?
If the beer was your first guess…it definitely predates the Goose Island Beer Company, which didn’t get its start until 1988.
This neighborhood naming is a bit of a mystery, but it has been said it was borrowed from the Irish settlers who raised geese as livestock.
Before it was known as Goose Island, this part of the city was called Ogden Island because of its association with the man-made Canal, which was then known as Ogden Canal.
It was also later nicknamed “Little Hell” because of the smoke that poured from its many power plants, tanneries, and rail yards.
Today Goose Island has a little different reputation. It is now neighbors with an entirely new neighborhood. They’re calling it Lincoln Yards. This neighborhood development is going to change everything.
